BC Ringette is pleased to announce that Richard White, former member of the CFL’s BC Lions and Saskatchewan Roughriders (1980-1986), has been chosen to head BC Ringette’s 2011 Canada Winter Games Program.

White, who is currently employed as a firefighter, comes to the position with an extensive background as a ringette coach. Along with his level 3 qualification, the highest coaching level recognized by BC Ringette, his resume includes work with teams in both the Tween-AA and Junior-AA divisions along with selection as Coach of the Year by the Lower Mainland Ringette AA program.

A Simon Fraser University graduate, White is excited about the challenge of leading this 3 year high performance program. Says White, “My goal is to build on the work previous coaches have done and improve our ranking against the rest of the country. I’d like to establish a consistency in how BC’s program competes against the other provinces”.

Most recently, BC Ringette won a bronze medal at the 2003 Canada Winter Games in New Brunswick and finished 5th at the 2007 games in Whitehorse.

Congratulations to Richard White for being selected as the next CWG coach for BC! Richard welcomes Phyllis Sadoway (Smokey Lake, Alberta) and Cathy Lipsett (Salmon Arm, BC) as his assistant coaches and Melinda Moorehouse (Quesnel, BC) as team manager.

U19 & CWG Update: The Canada Games Council is now working towards a new philosophy of highest possible level of athletes at the Games. As a result, they have suggested that Ringette Canada remove any exclusions of athletes (previously any athletes having been named to a national team or athlete who had competed at a World Championship was not eligible for the CWG). Ringette Canada is gladly complying with this suggestion. As a result in the next Canada Winter Games all athletes will be eligible to compete regardless of the fact that they have been a member of a national team (including U19).

Two major changes will be taking place at the next games. The age has changed to U20 and there will be a limit of 16 athlete's on the roster.
